About
Plain numbers for UK contractors
Ratesheet is a set of free calculators for UK contractors and freelancers. They answer the questions that come up before you sign a contract: what will I keep, is it inside IR35, how should I pay myself, and what will I owe?
How the calculators work
Every calculator runs on the same tax engine, using 2026/27 rates and thresholds for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The maths is tested against worked examples to the penny, and every page explains how its result is worked out so you can check it yourself.
Everything is calculated in your browser. We don’t ask for an email, we don’t store what you type, and nothing you enter is sent to us.
Keeping rates up to date
Rates were last checked on 8 Nov 2026 against GOV.UK. We review them each April when the new tax year starts, and after any Budget that changes them mid-year.
What we don’t cover (yet)
Scottish income tax bands, student loan repayments and profit retained in your company aren’t included.
How the site is funded
Ratesheet is free because it shows ads and occasional sponsored links, which are always labelled. Sponsors never affect the numbers.
The calculators are for guidance only and aren’t financial or tax advice. Get in touch if you spot something wrong.
